One of the most frequent questions I get when I mention polled is: What bulls are homozygous for the polled gene? The quick answer is "Not very many". Both parents must carry the polled gene in order to get a homozygous son/daughter. If both parents are heterozygous for the polled gene, then only 25% of their offspring will be homozygous. If one of the parents is homozygous and the other is hetero, then 50% of the offspring will be homozygous.

There is only one homozygous bull currently being marketed by a major stud. That would be Dallas-PP (7JE953) from Coba/Select Sires. 29JE3567 Arrowhead-PP was available from ABS, but I'm not sure if he is still available or not.

NorthCoast Group has a few including Messenger-PP, Dougreber Kiowa-PP, Mayor of Reber-PP.

Greg Palen of Michigan Livestock Service has a young bull by the name of Akhenaton of Netherhall-PP that might be available soon.

I will run a search of the AJCA database and see if I can find a list of all -PP bulls. I'll post the results here

I have my first two Dallas calves on the ground, one bull, one heifer. I had planned on getting a bull, so I used him on only my 10 best cows. I managed to get 7 bred. These calves are both by far the stubbornest, orneriest calves I have ever dealt with. Does anyone else have temperament issues with Dallas calves? I certainly dont want to breed a herd of calves like these two!
